Flat Base & Pole Mount Follow
Your Tempest Weather System includes two simple mounting accessories, the flat base mount and the pole mount. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for each. Be your station is online first (see the Quick Start Guide) and also be sure to read the Siting & Installation Guide.
Simple Flat Base Mount Installation
- Location: Any flat surface you can drive a screw into (post, railing, pergola, etc.)
- Materials: flat base (included), 3/4" #10 truss head screw (included)
- Tools: Phillips-head screwdriver, ladder (optional)
Drive the screw into your flat surface, leaving a small gap for the keyhole slot. It should be snug.
Aim the "arrow" icon North (or South if you live below the Equator). You're done!
Standard Pole Mount Installations
Pole attached to fence or post
- Location: Anywhere a pole or pipe can extend 2-4' above surrounding objects
- Materials: pole mount, a length of "one inch" pipe (PVC or steel, 1.25"-1.315" outer diameter), mounting hardware (screws or brackets)
- Tools: screwdriver, ladder (optional), drill (optional), level (optional)
If using screws, drill holes through the PVC pipe for the screws to pass through. Space them at least 6" apart.
Drive the screws through the pole and into the fence. Make sure the pole itself is level (it's okay to eyeball it if you don't have a level).
Slide the pole mount attachment on the pole, tighten the coupling and attach the Tempest.
Aim the "arrow" icon North (or South if you live below the Equator). You're done!
Pole in the ground
- Location: Any open space where you can dig a hole.
- Materials: pole mount, a 10-foot length of "one inch" pipe (schedule 80 PVC or steel, 1.25"-1.315" outer diameter). Chain link fence "top-rail" makes an excellent pole-in-ground mast.
- Tools: shovel or post hole digger, concrete (optional), level (optional)
Start by digging a hole for the pole deep enough so at least 30% of the pole will be in the ground. Fill with concrete (optional) and make sure the pole is level (it's okay to eyeball it if you don't have a level).
Slide the pole mount attachment on the pole, tighten the coupling and attach the Tempest.
Aim the "arrow" icon North (or South if you live below the Equator). You're done!
These are just a few examples of how to mount your Tempest. Be sure to read through the Siting & Installation Guide. You may also want to skim through the Tempest Installation Gallery for more inspiration.
